Alpha Exploration's Ben and Garrett Ainsworth Awarded the AME BC, Colin Spence Award for Excellence in Global Mineral Exploration

27.01.2014  |  Newsfile
Vancouver, British Columbia -- (Newsfile Corp. - January 27, 2014) - Alpha Exploration Inc. (TSXV: AEX) ("AEX" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that Ben Ainsworth, President, CEO and Garrett Ainsworth, VP Exploration, have been awarded The Association for Mineral Exploration, British Columbia (AME BC), 2013 Colin Spence Award. This prestigious honour is given for their role in the discovery and development of the Patterson lake South Deposit in the Athabasca Basin, Saskatchewan.

Garrett Ainsworth, VP Exploration, Alpha Exploration commented "My tenure as the sole Project Manager of the Patterson Lake South (PLS) project from inception in 2007 to June 2013 has been an exploration geologist's dream come true. From property acquisition through physically staking, research of public reports and data, grassroots exploration, trenching, discovery and delineation drilling I have reinforced and acquired a valuable and unique skill set. My father and I have always made a great team exploring for shareholder value, and a discovery of this significance, has made PLS an even more surreal experience. It is an absolute honour to accept the Colin Spence Award with my father as selected by our industry peers as we both lived and breathed PLS."

Ben Ainsworth, President, CEO, Alpha Exploration commented "The boulder discovery was the first of several important results that flagged the path to the discovery of the first mineralized zone in the Patterson Lake Conductor Corridor. Work in the 1970's by the Canadian Occidental team, including Roger Wallis and Fred Gittings, had concluded that there may be "exotic uranium boulders in the glacial till" where ground gamma and radon anomalies had been noted. The reports and data were well archived by the Saskatchewan Geological Survey, as was the drill core from the program. This encouraged us to push for further JV budget to carry out the programme that lead to the hand-held scintillometer and hand shovel work that on June 1st, 2011 found one of the largest high grade uranium boulder fields in the Athabasca Basin.

Drilling the following year resulted in the intersection of the first four high grade uranium holes in bedrock. The earlier radon surveys by Canadian Occidental and our JV Team indicated that radon had a potential to guide our work on the Patterson Lake Conductor Corridor. The JV undertook a trial test of radon sampling in shallow water of Patterson Lake, that covered about 50 meters of sand and boulder overburden above the bedrock. A string of exciting radon anomalies showed along the PL-3B conductor that extended eastwards from the discovery zone R00E. When these anomalies were drilled we hit more zones of high grade uranium.

It is a special honour to be receiving this recognition with my son. Garrett was the boots on the ground leader of this project for the JV from 2007 to June 2013, and dedicated more than 95% of his time as field time during every work program at PLS. His first hand knowledge, interpretation of data, and passion for PLS was instrumental in the discovery. As part of the PLS JV Management Committee Team, he was relied upon heavily for progressing PLS from boulder discovery through high grade uranium mineralized zone discoveries R00E, R390E, and R780E. We recognize that it was a team effort that had many components, from the building blocks of the Canadian Occidental work to the JV that we had started with Strathmore Minerals in February 2007, the predecessor company to Fission Energy (now Fission Uranium). We have not yet discovered the bedrock source of the boulders and that challenge remains for our former joint venture partners to complete."

"Ben and Garrett Ainsworth of Alpha Exploration Inc. are the recipients of the Colin Spence Award for excellence in global mineral exploration. They receive the award in recognition of their efforts which led to the discovery of a high-grade uranium mineralized system at the Patterson Lake South project in Saskatchewan." - AME BC News Release, December 12, 2013.

Previous recipients of the award include; Ross J. Beaty, Roman Shklanka, Charles Forster, Mark Rebagliati, The Rubicon Team (David Adamson, Mathew Wunder, Ian Russell, Terry Bursey, Crystal McCullough), Jeff Pontius and the International Tower Team, Alistair McCready, and Alpha's Chairman Dr. Michael Gunning.
